So this weekend was a pretty good weekend – I would say that was good for 13/15 meals (including snacks) so good for about 86% of the time. On Friday we stayed in. For dinner we had BBQ steak, potatoes, carrots and onions, and grilled peppers (we always split a regular size steak so about 4oz of meat each). Then we watched a 24 episode on demand and then hit the sack pretty early!
Saturday we were up early b/c we had a lot of stuff we wanted to accomplish that day! We ate a good healthy breakfast (4 egg omelet with chesse, peppers and chives from the garden split b/w us, ½ English muffin and hash brown) for sustenance. We got started in the garage, doing a quick organization and getting out the gardening gear. Then we moved to the back yard – we started with the dandelions, then I cleaned up the garden while the hubster mowed the lawn. It was actually quite hard work –my hamstrings and my hand were feeling sore the next day! We moved on into the basement (a walk out basement) which is finally got into tip top shape! We took a lunch break and had some homemade (“canned”) French Onion Soup with bread and cheese melted on top. Then we hopped on the bikes and took off for a ride. The ride was interesting b/c our bikes haven’t been in for their spring tune up and we only have little pumps (note to self: buy a better tire pump!) so our tires weren’t at 100% - but we still got in 13km in about 1 hour. Coming back into the wind with not enough air in the tires = 2 major slow pokes! Saturday night we grilled some boneless butterfly pork chops with squash fries and peppers. Then we watched another 24 episode on demand and the movie Duplicity (which was just ok).
We got up on Sunday hoping that the rain didn’t come so we could go for a hike with some friends but our wish did not come true, so instead we did some much needed errands. During errands we did pop into Whole Foods where we’ve never been before. Boy was it expensive. I saw some items that I see on blogs all the time but couldn’t stomach the cost ($15 for a jar of coconut butter) to actually buy the items. What we did buy was some fluoride free toothpaste that was on sale and a can of Blue Sky root beer (which was oh so delicious). We looked at buying some food for lunch but it all looked like it had been sitting out there for awhile (despite the fact that it was packed in there with lots of people eating lunch). So we just went home where I made some homemade Mac and Cheese with some leftover sauce from the freezer. The afternoon was pretty relaxing actually – watched a movie and just kicked back. Dinner was homemade Calzones (with dough made in the bread machine) that turned out to be not so yummy – boo. Too much crust and not enough toppings for our liking. Too bad we have leftovers!
This week is my first week of my 8 week training plan for my upcoming duathlon (2k run, 20k bike, 5k run). My plan is loosely based on a few plans I’ve come across but instead of 3 runs, 3 bikes I’m still sticking to a triathlon layout of 2 swims, 2 runs, 2 bikes b/c I like swimming! What I normally do is say what I need to accomplish each week and then plan out the days each week so I can take into account my schedule and the weather. Here is the 8 week plan – each week will have 2 swims, 2-3 Strength training (after the 1st week won’t write it down):
Week 1: 2 swims, 2 runs (4k, 6k), 2 bike rides (35min, 60min), 2-3 Strength training
Week 2: 2 runs (4k, 7k), 2 bike (40 min, 60min)
Week 3: 2 runs (5k, 7k), 2 bike (45 min, 75min)
Week 4: 2 runs (5k, 8k), 2 bike (50min, 75min)
Week 5: 2 runs (5k race, 8k), 2 bike (60min followed by a 10min run, 75 min preceded by a 10min run)
Week 6: 2 runs (7k, 10k), 1 bike (90 min followed by a 15 min run), mock duathlon (10 min run, 40 min bike, 10 min run)
Week 7: 2 runs (7k, 10k), 1 bike (90 min preceded by a 15 min run), mock duathlon (10 min run, 40 min bike, 15 min run)
Week 8: 1 swim, 1 run (20min), 2 bike (40min, 30 min followed by a 10min run) no ST
RACE!
This is my weekly training plan (I will be moving all ST to end of week, need my hand to feel stronger):
Monday – PM 35 min indoor bike ride
Tuesday – AM 45 min swim, PM drop off the bikes for spring tune up
Wednesday – AM 4k run
Thursday – AM 45 min swim
Friday – AM 7k run
Saturday – off
Sunday – 60 min bike (or Sat whichever works best)
My main goals are to this week: get in all my workouts and track. That’s it. Just the 2. 2 very important need to meet goals that I don’t want to muddle with any others!
